Who We Are
HerLab is a health research navigation service operated by Kate Elise Richards as a sole trader, based in Perth, Western Australia. Our mission is to empower women with accessible, well-researched health information that helps them better understand their own bodies, symptoms, and options. We exist to bridge the gap between complex medical research and everyday understanding — so you can walk into your next appointment feeling informed, confident, and heard.
It is important to note that we are NOT a medical service. HerLab does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Our role is purely educational and navigational — we help you find and understand relevant health research, but we always encourage you to work with qualified healthcare professionals for any medical decisions.

What Information We Collect
Transparency is one of our core values, and we want you to know exactly what information we gather and how. We only collect information that you voluntarily provide to us through your interactions with HerLab. We do not collect information from other sources, purchase data lists, or use any covert tracking methods beyond standard website analytics.
The health information you share with us — including symptoms, health history, family health history, and medication details — is classified as sensitive personal information under Australian privacy law. We recognise the deeply personal nature of this data, and we treat it with the highest level of care, respect, and security. You are always in control of how much you choose to share, and you can decline to answer any question in our Health Research Quiz without penalty.
Health Research Quiz (Typeform)
First name, email address, age range, location, health symptoms, health history, family health history, medications and supplements, lifestyle information, and any additional details you choose to share.
Email Communications
Your email address and the content of any messages you send us directly. We only retain correspondence necessary to provide our service and respond to your enquiries.
Website Analytics
Standard anonymous usage data such as pages visited, time on site, and browser type. This data is collected via cookies and cannot be used to personally identify you.
How We Use Your Information
We believe in purposeful data use — meaning we only use your information for the specific reasons you provided it. There are no hidden agendas, no secondary monetisation strategies, and no behind-the-scenes data sharing. Your trust is the foundation of our service, and we take that responsibility seriously.
We WILL Use Your Information To
  • Create your personalised Health Research Roadmap based on the details you provide
  • Communicate with you about your roadmap, including any follow-up questions or clarifications
  • Improve our service based on aggregated, de-identified feedback that cannot be traced back to you
  • Send you updates about HerLab — but only if you have explicitly opted in to receive them
🚫 We Will NEVER
  • Sell your personal information to anyone — ever
  • Share your identifiable health information with third parties without your explicit consent
  • Use your information for advertising or marketing purposes beyond direct HerLab communications
  • Disclose your data to insurance companies, employers, or any other third party

Your health information is yours. We are custodians of it only for the purpose of creating your roadmap, and we will never exploit that trust for commercial gain.
How We Store and Protect Your Information
Data security is not an afterthought at HerLab — it is built into every layer of how we operate. We understand that the information you share with us is deeply personal, and we have implemented multiple safeguards to ensure it remains confidential, secure, and accessible only to those who need it to deliver your service.
All data handling practices are designed to comply with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) as outlined in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). We regularly review our processes to ensure they meet current best-practice standards for data protection and information security.
01
Encrypted Quiz Storage
Your Health Research Quiz responses are stored securely through Typeform's encrypted servers, which utilise industry-standard TLS encryption for data in transit and AES-256 encryption for data at rest.
02
Secure Roadmap Delivery
Your personalised Health Research Roadmaps are created and stored securely through the Gamma platform, ensuring your roadmap content is protected throughout its lifecycle.
03
Encrypted Communications
All email communications between you and HerLab are conducted through encrypted email channels, safeguarding the content of your messages from interception.
04
Ongoing Protection Measures
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. This includes limiting access to your data strictly to those involved in creating your roadmap.
Third-Party Services
To deliver our service effectively and securely, HerLab relies on a small number of trusted third-party platforms. We have carefully selected each service provider based on their security credentials, privacy practices, and alignment with Australian privacy standards. We want you to understand exactly which platforms interact with your data and why.
Importantly, we only share the minimum information necessary for these services to function. We do not provide any additional personal data beyond what is required for each platform to perform its specific role in delivering your Health Research Roadmap.
